Starcraft 3D mock up: it isn’t Starcraft 2
May 19 is the day that many people believe StarCraft, Diablo Series”>Blizzard will finally douse the StarCraft 2 fire which has been spreading like a brushfire for quite a long time now. After the whole ruckus in Korea about the big StarCraft revelation, fans from the franchise have been feverish lately; they’re beginning to speculate how StarCraft 2 would look like.
Of course, the biggest clues leaked from former Blizzard employees in Korea hinted that the game was going totally 3D. So it wasn’t hard for many people to start meta-searching for StarCraft 3D pictures. It seems one has revived a 3D StarCraft mock up from Blizzard’s 2006 Art Contest, and people are hoping StarCraft 2 looks even better.
The picture you see was created by Steffen Unger, whose entry won the Best 3D Environment Award for the StarCraft category under the Second Prize Winner bracket. It’s not as dark and as fully detailed as you would expect from a stepped up 3D engine of the latest revisions of the DX9 generation, but it could serve as a guide for most people as to just how good the game should be once the VODs and artwork pop up at the 2007 World Wide Invitational to be held in Seoul, Korea.
We have just about over a month to go before Blizzard spills the beans on their latest developments for the franchise, and hopefully, it’s not an MMORPG like some sites have speculated. Feel free to leave your StarCraft 2 sentiments below (because we know a lot of you have a couple to let out). You can hop over to a more high-res image via the “Read” link below.
