Hot on the heels of the announcement that Mac owners will finally getting some Steam support, Valve has also revealed that they are planning to include in-game microtransactions in the upcoming Steamworks game development tool update. According to a recent Steamworks brochure released by the company:

Want to offer your customers a scabbard for their sword? New tires? The latest in night vision goggles? Now you can through microtransaction support in Steamworks. Your item server can now be easily integrated with Steamworks so that Steam users can buy and instantly use the items they want – all without leaving the game. Steam handles all of the billing through the user’s Steam account.

Along with the announcement, Valve is also revealed its plan to upgrade the Steam Cloud service to allow up to 100 MB of data to be stored in the server per game, instead of the previous storage capacity of 1 MB.
