Stranglehold to have multiplayer, game to be released late summer

It’s not everyday you get to be the guy who slides down a banister with both handguns firing, toothpick firmly clamped between teeth. Thankfully, Stranglehold (the game that lets you do just that), is now slated for a late summer release as we’ve learned in this Q&A session with the folks over at Midway.

The first question asked is about Inspector Tequila’s tools of mass destruction. While any of us would be mostly content on gunning down every in-game enemy with the good Inspector’s pistols, he’s packed enough heat to spoil us with so many choices. Notable examples include machine guns, the requisite shotgun, the sniper rifles for those hard-to-reach places, and the unforgettable rocket launcher.

Now for the game’s own brand of slow motion, Tequila Time. While previous games had this neat little function as something to merely give players an edge over the competition, Tequila Time is different in that it makes your shots inflict higher damage as well as net you more style points with every kill you make.

Another notable difference is that one can set Tequila Time to happen automatically – that is, when you interact with various objects in the environment (i.e. sliding off a banister and then diving to shoot at your enemies). If you want more control over your Tequila Time though, you can still have it set to activate at a button press.

As for the boss fights in the game, players will be pleased to know that the developers have indeed taken this part of the game seriously – with the boss characters running the gamut from a vehicle, a mob, to a particularly-tough bad guy that’s wielding something with enough caliber to tear up the environment around you. You’ll have to dodge bullets AND falling debris if you’re to survive.

For gamers wondering if there’s going to be any multiplayer joy in Stranglehold, you’re in luck – multiplayer is in fact confirmed, but beyond that there’s not much else we know. Also, Midway kept mum on the game’s definitive release date – but late summer’s a start, isn’t it? Check back here for all updates regarding Stranglehold!
