Street Fighter 2 heading to Virtual Console?

Hadouken? Shoryuken! Will we really see Capcom‘s most famous intellectual property on Nintendo’s Wii someday? Maybe. We’re not sure if it actually will, but it’s nice to think about, especially given this latest bit of buzz.

It seems that the Entertainment Software Ratings Board (ESRB) has given Street Fighter 2: The World Warrior an actual rating for play on the Wii. That might not actually confirm its actual release for the virtual console, but like we said, it would be nice to hope.

If it does actually mean that Capcom’s thinking about shelling out some of its earlier releases for the Wii, then you can expect fighting fans everywhere to want to try this out. As long as it isn’t the Jean-Claude van Damme movie-to-game adaptation, probably ANY version of Street Fighter 2 would be most welcome.

We doubt there’ll be perfect emulation though, but it’s the granddaddy that started them all and if we’re lucky, they might tweak it for online multiplayer (imagine that). You can’t exactly dismiss something like that, now, can you?
