Street Fighter II THD Update: Balrog’s stage, new gameplay mode
Finally, here’s another update for Capcom‘s Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD courtesy of SSFIITHD producer Rey Jimenez. In this update we’ll learn about Balrog’s stage (looks sweet!) and a new gameplay mode.
Pictured on the right is the completely remade backdrop for Balrog’s stage in SSFIITHD, and so far it looks great, with background characters looking more anime-ish yet as flashy as ever. Jimenez said that while they overhauled the images and sprites used in the game, they still made it a point that the backgrounds will still be recognizable.
Some characters in the background are now animated, but as a trade-off they have removed some elements from the backdrop as a way of minimizing the game’s download size. On a related note, Jimenez also mentioned in the latest SSFIIHD update that they did not add frames to the character sprites as an added measure to make sure that the game won’t take up unnecessarily large disk space, but he assured that animation will still be smooth. There will also be no alternate costumes, as these would mean additional sprites.
Moving on to even better news, Jimenez revealed that they are working on a new gameplay mode for SSFIITHD, which is temporarily dubbed as the “re-balanced” mode. He didn’t give enough details about the mode, but he said that the re-balanced mode was created from the input they have gathered from the best Super Street Fighter Turbo players, with top Super Street Fighter Turbo tournament player David Sirlin as one of the major members of the development team.
The news of a new gameplay mode certainly piqued our curiosity, and we also can’t wait to get our hands on images of the other remade backdrops. Stay tuned with us here on QJ for more updates!
