StrmnNrmn confirms future Daedalus on PSP Slim
We kept our eyes on StrmnNrmn‘s page for the eventual release of the Daedalus Nintendo 64 emulator’s next version, R13. The homebrew developer did mention that he was expecting R13’s release do be sometime between September 29 and the first weekend of October. But what surfaced in StrmnNrmn’s site wasn’t the actual release but some clarification of what some of us might have been wondering for quite some time now.
Will Daedalus ever run on the PSP Slim & Lite?
Yes, StrmnNrmn’s heard your many comments and suggestions. But he says that he doesn’t have a PSP Slim yet. Which means that he won’t be able to verify tests directly on the Slim’s firmware. He does say that he’s planning to support 3.xx firmware – and that other people are welcome to compile the Daedalus source for 3.xx. But until he can do so himself, other people’s releases would have to be called unofficial.
StrmnNrmn’s thinking about setting up a donation page for some people who might want to help him out in getting a Slim. And hell, why not?
The next question now is whether Daedalus (if it did make it to the Slim) would take advantage of the Slim’s additional 32MiB RAM. StrmnNrmn explains that it won’t necessarily give faster emulation speeds, but it can benefit in two other areas: texture cache and ROM cache. The important thing though is:
So in summary, yes, I will support the PSP Slim and Lite at some point, but no, it’s unlikely to offer much of an improvement over the PSP-1000s (other than being slimmer and lighter, obviously 🙂
