Super Mario Strikers Sequel Coming to Wii?
If there’s a germ of truth to what sources close to Nintendo of Europe are saying, we could be getting some football action on the Wii with the sequel to Super Mario Strikers. The insiders also told IGN that the game will be showed off at the Games Convention (GC) in Leipzig, Germany, later this month.
Details about the game have not been disclosed, but we presume the game will take advantage of Nintendo’s “Wiimote” (though we can’t seem to figure out how).
Super Mario Strikers (aka Mario Smash Football in Europe and Australia) is a football (soccer) game released exclusively for the Nintendo GameCube last year. It was a great addition to the Mario sports games lineup which includes Mario Golf and Mario Power Tennis.
Since its release, the game has sold more than 500,000 copies, making it a prime candidate for a Wii appearance. The game combines soccer action and the classic features that can only be seen in the Mushroom Kingdom universe. The result is a fast-paced game overrun with special pick-ups, featuring a cast of characters that includes Mario, Donkey Kong, Peach, Luigi and Bowser, among others.
While we’re thrilled with a Super Mario Strikers sequel, we’d still treat this bit of info as rumor. GC 2006 is fast approaching, so we’ll soon find out if we’ll get some Mario football action on the Wii.
