You can enter a custom name (or a random one, whatever floats your boat) and assign a button set for it. Easier and definitely a lot less stressful.

According to the official website Smash Bros. DOJO!, Nintendo’s “considering” enabling the players to save their names, along with the personalized button configurations to the Wiimote. Hmm, imagine going to a sleepover and you brought your personal buttons configs with you. The idea’s still on the drawing board so we’d have to wait for definite confirmation regarding that.
