Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix beta has freezing problems, Capcom responds

Beta versions of games are bound to have problems, but when the problem happens to be a freezing issue that prevents you from actually playing the game, then we have situation plaguing Capcom’s Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix beta. So… Capcom‘s beta for Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix (henceforth known as SSF2THDR) has gone live, but it hasn’t gone live without incident. There’s now a thread on the Capcom Unity forums talking about a decided inability to play the actual beta content. Worse still, it seems a fix won’t be incoming.

Players bought Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3 and got a special bonus in the form of access to the SSF2THDR beta. The problem is, now that the beta’s live, people are experiencing issues with the game freezing at different points, usually when one tries to connect to a match or when one is in spectator mode.

When someone brought up the possibility of the game getting patched, Capcom’s Christian Svensson replied,

We will not be patching the beta… resubmissions would cost a fortune and not go live for weeks even if we had (MS would have to reapprove every submission). This isn’t like the PC where a developer can make changes daily (for good or ill). All feedback and bugs will be factored into the final code.

Some sad news there, seeing as a lot of people were probably looking forward to trying the online action. Still, it seems as if the beta works if you don’t go online, so you may just have to be content with playing the game against the AI or a friend.
