Sweat’s no sweat with Logitech’s Chill Stream PS3 controller

LogitechPS3 fans, you won’t have to worry anymore about getting your hand-eye coordination shot to hell due to the sweat that’s gonna cover your PS3’s controller once you get a hold of that bad boy. IGN reports that thanks to increased interest in a controller that can fight off sweat, Logitech has announced that they will be releasing just such a product for the PS3 next year.

The controller, which flies under the name Game Controller Chill Stream, is set to be released in Japan on December 7, roughly a month after the PS3’s launch date. So, just how does the Chill Stream fight off all that perspiration? The controller’s secret weapon is a built-in three-setting fan which cools down your hand as you play. That’s high-tech at work right there, folks.

Seriously though, it’s kinda weird that it took this long for something like this to actually come out for a game console. I myself have been facing the sweaty hand syndrome ever since the NES came out, and I’ve had to resort to all kinds of ways just to keep it under control (using my shirt to cover my hands while I played was always the first option that came to mind). PC gamers had it better, though, as Logitech has also released a Chill Stream game controller for PCs earlier this year.

Another major selling point for the Chill Stream has got to be the price. Surprisingly, despite all of that built-in fan business and the easier-to-push D-pad buttons, the Chill Stream will retail for only Â¥ 4,480 (about US$ 38) including tax. That’s around US$ 5 less than the Â¥5,000 (US$ 42) that Sony is asking for the official SIXAXIS controller.

Logitech’s Game Controller Chill Stream will be available in two colors: black and silver.
