*UPDATE* It’s not real!!!!
Fans of Syberia will finally know what happened to Kate Walker after the second game’s abrupt ending. Microids has just sent out a press release announcing Syberia 3 for the PlayStation 3, boasting cross-platform gameplay with the PC.
Syberia 3 picks up where the second game left off. Kate follows the mammoths’ trailer in what the press release describes as “a world on the border between reality and imagination, where strange white birds indicate the presence of extinct animals.” Sounds like Syberia 3 will continue the tradition of high-quality artwork from the previous games.
The PR also describes that cross-platform gameplay is not just an option, but rather a requirement. “Only PS3 players who have collaborated with PC players, and vice versa, will be able to accompany Kate to the end of the adventure.” Sounds like a shameless way to make sure you make your friends buy the game, but I’m intrigued.
The game will be “entirely in real time 3D” says the PR, and will be released on both the PS3 and the PC in June 2010.
*UPDATE*
Party’s over, guys! Unfortunately, the Syberia 3 news and all that jazz about having PS3-PC connectivity is just another of them April Fools’ jokes roaming about today. Fans sure are disappointed, and actually, we are too.
But maybe they do have something cooking for the franchise already, they just preferred to get the buzz going by pulling this very, very specific prank on us. I mean, why bother stirring up a long-silent game if not to put the spotlight back to it again, right?
Then again, we won’t get your hopes up too high; this might just be a plain prank, no ulterior motives, at all. Lesson learned: be wary of absolutely guhreat news today. It’s April Fools’.
