Tekken: Dark Resurrection Reviewed

Devil Jin

There is nothing bad to be said about Tekken: Dark Resurrection, except that it’s badass! New ranks, new moves, new music, interface enhancements and having every character available right from the start, makes it more than an upgrade to its predecessors.

One of the nice features is that you can square off against other players. Having the feel of playing it on a console using your handheld. But the most interesting addition is the Ghost feature. Players are given the ability to record themselves fighting, upload that representation, and offer it for download to others. When it has been downloaded, people from all parts of the globe can duel with your “ghost” and vice versa.

It has undeniably the most crisp graphics in a handheld. The 60 frames per second that goes to 30 seconds during the cut scenes is noteworthy. The backgrounds and the chracters’ level of details is a sight to behold as well.

There are also a variety of mini-games like Tekken Bowling, Gold Rush and Dojo Mode, where you can unlock the games hidden freebies.

Only real concern about the game when in you’re in two player mode, there is an inconsistent lag. But, it seems to happen more often if the game is played over one shared UMD compared to both players having the UMD. Also arcade veterans may have to have a warm up game first, to familiarize themselves with the PSPs controls.

Overall, there are more pros than cons to this sleek fighting game for the PSP. The pros are so good that it makes all the cons utterly forgivable.
