Tekken team interview: Bringing the Tekken 6: Bloodline Rebellion experience home
Gamepro sat down with members of the Tekken 6 team and talked about Tekken 6: Bloodline Rebellion and its release on PS3 and Xbox 360. Read about their take on bringing the arcade feel of the game into your living room.
Gamepro had a chance to sit with Katsuhiro Harada, Takahiro Noda, and Yuichi Yonemori to talk about Tekken 6: Bloodline Resurrection coming to the PS3 and Xbox 360. They will be making use of the consoles’ powerful engines and online features to give that arcade-playing feel at home.
“Basically, one thing we really want to try hard on is to recreate the arcade experience of fighting someone in the arcades,” they said.
The problem with the online feature is lag. Players found Dark Resurrection to have significant lag, keeping the arcade experience from taking effect. It sure is frustrating to watch your opponents fall back down only moments after you launched them.
One thing that makes this even more difficult is Tekken is different from other fighting games in the fact that there is not much of a key buffer. Where other games might have three to five frames between the input and when it’s displayed onscreen. Tekken only has one frame.
Tekken 6: Bloodline Rebellion is still in the works, and the Tekken team is trying to come up with new ways to resolve this particular issue.
Apart from unlockables and customization options, they also want to add a feature that allows players to watch replays of the best players going at it, though it’s not top priority right now. I hope they go through with it – it’s a fantastic feature. I watch pro replays on the Internet, and I find it helps me improve my game.
Tekken 6: Bloodline Rebellion is expected to come out June 2009, and by then, hopefully we’ll be trading juggles lag-free online.
