If you haven’t played The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time on the Nintendo 64 before (yes, we believe there are quite a handful of you mere mortals existing out there who haven’t yet) and still thinking about getting its Virtual Console port, look no further. Those 1000 Wii Points are more than worth it. Because for almost ten years since the game was released, Ocarina of Time stands as one of the best games ever released.

EDGE magazine has compiled votes from thousands of its readers, looking for the best game in the span of three full decades. And despite it being nearly ten years old already, common sentiment holds that the game is nothing but classic. “Great game design does not age,” says EDGE EIC Tony Mott, in a press release announcing their 260-page collector’s book “EDGE Presents: The 100 Best Videogames.”

Mott continues, “In visual terms, [Ocarina of Time] obviously cannot compete with today’s Xbox 360 and PS3 productions, but, as with many classics, its appeal is about so much more than its appearance.” Here’s a list of the top ten games, as compiled by EDGE in their publication:

  1. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (Nintendo 64)
  2. Resident Evil 4 (GameCube, PlayStation 2)
  3. Super Mario 64 (Nintendo 64)
  4. Half-Life 2 (PC)
  5. Super Mario World (Super Nintendo)
  6. The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (Super Nintendo)
  7. Halo: Combat Evolved (Xbox)
  8. Final Fantasy XII (PlayStation 2)
  9. Tetris (Various)
  10. Super Metroid (Super Nintendo)

EDGE’s collector’s edition is scheduled to be released on the 3rd of July, with a cover price of £ 10.
