Teramoto talks about Ridge Racer 7

Namco’s Hideo Teramoto in his third Developer Diary entry gives us a quick rundown on what makes Ridge Racer 7 different from other previous titles. The thing is, we’ve heard a lot about what’s new about this next-gen PS3 hit, but coming from the developer himself, the words do sound a lot sweeter. During pre-TGs season, Teramoto has already delineated “Real Unreality” concept from the unique “Exhilaration” experience. Today, it’s all about the four elements that set Ridge Racer 7 apart from all the other racing titles under Namco Bandai‘s belt.

Environments with elaborate details — Creating a game with 1080p high-def graphics running at 60 fps is no mean feat. The game is clearly on epic and intricate scale. Teramoto even gives a hint on a Mist Falls course challenge wherein you try to find a four-inch mantis in an Asian rainforest! Ridge Racer 7 boasts of 22 courses, the largest in the series’ history.

Machine customization mode — If the game doesn’t allow online play, there would have been fewer exterior variations and performance variations per car (headlights, window tints, body color, decals…whew!). Compatibility is not even a problem, as when you decide to pimp your ride and show it off during online play, you’re not required to have some special automotive knowledge. Just make sure you “beat your rivals with your own unique machine!”

Online party — We bet you’d think twice about getting Ridge Racer 7 if it doesn’t fully support online team-ups, split-screen Pair Time Attacks, Time Attack modes, and head-to-head attacks. It just sounds so cool knowing racing is no longer just getting online, uploading data, staring at the ranking boards, and logging out. That phase is over.

Ridge Racer Grand Prix — The story goes that if you earned enough Fame points, you get better deals with your manufacturer, even if you play offline. There’s a seamless connection between online and offline modes, so it’s not just getting ahead at the Grand Prix, but about any point you gain at Ridge State that’s going to increase your ranking at the global ranking boards.

Teramoto has given us a slice of the sweet Ridge Racer 7 pie, but he isn’t done sharing yet. His next update will include the World Hub details so keep on reading as we’re all watching out for more of that juicy stuff.
