For those of us wondering if Final Fantasy XIII will remain as an exclusive for the PlayStation 3, Square Enix has given the final answer: yes, the sequel to Square’s RPG epic will remain only for Sony‘s shiny black powerhouse of a console, and will not be available anywhere else.

This nugget of info comes directly from this year’s Tokyo Game Show, via the Closed Mega Theater screening of Final Fantasy XIII‘s latest trailer. The eye candy-rich video clip of next-gen Final Fantasy goodness ended with the words “For PS3 Only” flashing onto the screen. This was also the case with the trailer of Final Fantasy XIII Versus, the darker, grittier title of the two.

So what does this bode for the rest of the consoles, then? Just what it says – there won’t be any next-gen Final Fantasy joy for them, sad as it may be. However, all hope is not lost, as this generation has seen some titles jumping from being exclusive to being multiplatform. Aside from that, Square Enix has just announced a couple of other RPG titles for other platforms, including a Kingdom Hearts for the mobile phone.
