TGS 2007: Sony says no to PS3 price cut, promises more games
President and Group Chief Operating Officer of Sony Computer Entertainment, Inc. Kazuo Hirai has announced that there will be no price cuts for the PlayStation 3 at his keynote speech in this year’s Tokyo Game Show. It should be noted that not a few analysts have said that a price-cut or an added value bundle will be announced at the event, but it appears they were wrong.
Hirai pointed out that “Price is a very important aspect, but at the same time the urgent matter is to what extent we can further enrich the software titles.” Their recent moves, including the purchase of Evolution and Bigbig studios as well as their promise to help out PS3 and PSP developers seem to support this decision.
While we didn’t get the price reduction that we were hoping for, Hirai did note that the price of the console is also important. Could this mean that once Sony is done beefing up the library of games for the PS3, they will drop the price for the system?
