The Happy Avalanche Studios People
The whole of gaming industry is currently being scrutinized as another killing rampage occurred in Montreal. Yet again, the incident is being linked to mature video games with violent nature. Such connections affect the industry gravely and this is not to mention all gamers and developers being stereotyped.
What are violent video games anyway? Take the case of Just Cause, for example. It was given a rating of Mature by the ESRB for reasons including: use of drugs, mild language, intense violence, realistic blood and mature sexual themes. Based from here, it is so easy to conclude that developer Avalanche Studios is a bunch of misguided, dark, blood-thirsty individuals.
But back in the quiet town of Stockholm, the young, independent company expresses nonchalance to say the least. Their fourth video diary just shows the big contrast from the dark picture media is painting about the industry. They are, in fact, a group of happy people who loves to laugh at themselves.
This is not to create further noise from the unfortunate incident. This is just a reminder that it is incorrect to make hasty generalizations over whatever things. Just Cause is set on a fictional South American tropical island called San Esperito. The title hits the retail shops by September 27.
