The iPhone 18 Pro wo n’t receive the TSMC 2nm processor until the device is released.
TSMC has developed a 2nm technology
Despite earlier reports that Apple’s iPhone 17 Pro was going to get TSMC’s latest 2nm chip, a new claim states that mass production won’t be ready until 2025. Reports from April 2024 said that Apple would produce the faster 2 nanometer chips in 2025 and that they would first appear in the iPhone 17 Pro. TSMC committed to a launch in 2025, but a recent claim claims that volume production won’t be ready for the iPhone launch that year. The claim was made by a leaker on the Chinese social media website Weibo, who goes by the name “Mobile phone chips expert”. The claim was made in response to reports in the industry media that chips with a 2nm process will be ready by early 2025. The leaker writes, “This is fake news. After reading the production planning table, I am sure that this is yet another report from the unscrupulous press.” The leaker then specifies that the iPhone 17 Pro still uses 3nm processors. The iPhone won’t have 2nm processors until the iPhone 18 range. The report that the leaker is trying to refute also states that Apple’s M5 chip will be mass-produced by 2025. The leaker does not directly comment on this statement, but previous reports have stated that Apple is already working with the M5 chip. The “Mobile Phone Chip expert” leaker has a good reputation for accuracy. Most of his or her claims are about issues that may take years to confirm. It is possible that they will never be confirmed. A recent claim by the leaker claims that Apple has a plan to develop AI processors in its data centers.
