The Legend of Ares Revealed – Lead Game Designer Interview Part 1

In an interview with IGN, lead game designer June Lee revealed the new 3D medieval fantasy-action MMORPG, The Legend of Ares. The game revolves around the conflict between the Holy Empire and the Religious Alliance. With that in mind, we can expect intense battle systems, massive guild play, and territory warfare that put emphasis on large-scale quests.

In terms of gameplay, players can look forward to a multitude of character skills that lead to customizable characters and greater PvP possibilities. Quests will start with simple ones but will become more complicated as the story progresses.

When asked about the game’s fresh contribution to the MMORPG scene, Lee mentioned the game’s unique warring system that “gives players both honor and territory, which can only be promoted through warfare. As players earn higher honor, they get bonuses making them stronger in all aspects of the game. Also, depending on the type of war, players may also claim territories for bonuses that affect the glory and status of their nation.”

The Legend of Ares will have additional quests and and enlarged scale of warfare, an upgrade to the original version of the game, Ares Online, which was released in Korea in 2002. The North American version’s warfare system will be revamped to accomodate different types of PvP combat: normal Empire vs. Alliance, guild vs. guild, and territorial war. Though Ares is a combat-oriented MMORPG, players can still enjoy the game without succumbing to random acts of player-killing by high level players. The game even has designated safe zones that will serve as refuge for low level players. How’s that for peace of mind?
