The new” Toy Story 5″ video was made using an Apple Watch experience from Pixar.

Apple Watch has added a “Toy Story’ face in 2017
Last updated 1 hour agoOne the world’s largest entertainment companies has created a teaser for 2026’s Toy Story 5 using Apple Watch animations that were released in 2017. The animated Apple Watch faces were released two years before the release of Toy Story 4 in 2019. The new animated trailer opens with a space-alien being winched up with a steel claw. Next, a blue backdrop with the film’s logo and Woody, Buzz, Jessie, in the background, follows. Woody runs to the front to wave hello. Jessie follows, with a big wink. Buzz runs offstage and reappeares in the front on the right, giving the viewer a salute. These animations were originally assets created by Pixar for watchOS 4. Dylan McDonald, the owner of SunApps and a poster on X.com showed off the reusing of animation assets, and then posted the Apple Watch faces. He said that the original black backgrounds of the animations were edited out to make the characters appear against a background of blue. In his tweet, McDonald credited an Apple intern who was working on the Maps application for discovering the reuse of the animation assets. Commenters on both posts were amused, with speculations that the actual film hasn’t yet progressed enough to have new animation. Only two animations in the trailer were not repurposed Apple Watch animations. They were instead re-used by other sources. The alien being dragged up by a claw-like toy has been seen before as well as the short animation of Buzz running away from the camera. Andrew Stanton will write and direct Toy Story 5, which is set to debut in the US June 19th 2026. Stanton wrote the first four Toy Story films, as well as Monsters, Inc. Stanton cowrote and directed the 2003 Pixar hit Finding Nemo, and its sequel Finding Dory. He also co-wrote the 2008 Pixar sci-fi romance Wall-E and directed the less-successful Disney live-action film John Carter of Mars. In 2019, a “Toy Story’ poster signed by Steve Job sold for over $30,000 in an auction.
