The PS3 doesn’t want Microsoft plug-ins
And so IGN finally got their PlayStation 3 test system and from the looks of their latest report, it seems they are putting it to very good use. As we all know, the console comes with various slots for different plug-ins. The IGN staff then gathered every USB and memory devices they could find and tweaked the unit with it. Their little experiment produced some interesting and rather funny results.
They first tested the EyeToy and fortunately the device was perfectly recognized by the PS3. Do take note though that the console is not configured for it as default. What you need to do is head on to the System Settings menu, and then navigate to its Accessory Options sub-menu. You should be able to access and activate it there. Also, should you need it for whatever reasons, USB keyboards are also being supported.
The test system’s software, IGN noticed, was kind of dumbed down as it doesn’t feature support for Blu-ray playback, Internet browsing and expanded PSP connectivity This is the reason why they weren’t able to test support for mouse, PSP and memory stick. Finally, just for kicks or just out of sheer curiosity, IGN popped in several Microsoft devices like Xbox Live Vision and Xbox 360 wired controller. Of course, they weren’t or didn’t want to be recognized by the PS3.
