The second state to find Apple Wallet pilot’s licenses is definitely California

Adding a driver’s license to Apple Wallet
California is preparing to offer a digital license that will allow drivers to carry a government ID version in their Apple Wallet. The Apple Wallet’s ability to store digital licenses and state IDs is a slow process. Ohio became the fifth state in July to offer this feature. California may be the next state to join, although it’s not clear which one. AppleInsider reader shared two internal websites that show the DMV of California is running a pilot program for digital driving licenses. This is an internal beta-test that will only be available to DMV employees. Employees must have an up-to-date Apple Watch, a California driver’s licence or ID card and an iPhone running iOS 17.5. Face ID or Touch ID must be enabled, as well as two-factor authentication for the Apple ID and the device’s region set to United States. The state’s internal testing is a sign that a digital license will be available soon. It does not mean, however, that the service will be available to civilians any time soon. The digital license, which was introduced in 2020 and is stored in Apple Wallet, allows for quick scanning of the credential using an iPhone or Apple Watch. It will work on electronic readers and even at some TSA checkpoints in airports.
