Bungie has released all three games in the “Marathon Trilogy” on Steam. “Marathon Infinity”, which is now available for free on Macs, can be played by anyone. Bungie began bringing Marathon to Steam in May with the goal of releasing all three titles as free downloads. Bungie completed the trilogy on Thursday. Classic Marathon Infinity, a free Steam game that is playable on Mac and Windows PCs, is available for download. It is a faithful remake of the 1995 first person shooter using the original data files but modernized. These modernizations include widescreen support for the HUD, 3D filtering and positional audio. They are all powered by the Aleph One engine. In Marathon Infinity, players are captured by Durandal, a rogue AI. They must search for the secrets of an ancient clan in the ruins of an ancient galaxy. The game forces players to battle opponents with “sophisticated weaponry and devious tactics.” The minimum system requirements for the game include macOS High Sierra on a Mac, with either an Apple Silicon or Intel Core M processor, 4GB of RAM, and 100MB storage. Steam released two previous games in the series that were also free. Classic Marathon was republished by May, and Classic Marathon 2 in July. These classic rereleases could keep fans happy as Bungie works on its spiritual reboot. Marathon, announced in 2023, will be a modern retelling within the same universe. It will also be playable on PlayStation 5. The release date of the new Marathon is not yet known.
