The unofficial swimming change in Patch 2.1

Problems with swimming up or down? - Image 1Because of some new developments that occurred in patch 2.1, it seems swimming won’t be as fun as it used to be for a good number of people. We noticed a post on the forums that delved into the topic, and thought you might want to know why you can’t map swimming onto your keyboards anymore.

Here’s the situation: Khrakan of Shandris was wondering why swimming appeared to be bugged. Apparently, he found himself unable to use the Insert and Delete keys to swim like he used to, and wondering if it was a bug.

After some discussion with some Blizzard poster Slouken, as well as the helpful information provided by Faizaniel of Dragonblight, the matter was explained, though it’s far from being resolved. According to a related post, GM Tigerclaw explained that the reason this was happening was to keep people from getting disconnected:

You may have noticed that on some systems, abrupt pitch changes with mouse or keyboard could cause disconnects. In the short term we are taking out the keyboard pitch control functionality to stop this from happening, while we continue to investigate.

He also mentioned that a fix was going to be implemented for this eventually, though this might take some time. While we wait though, it seems people will have to get use to controlling their swimming through the use of the mouse or trackpad.
