The World Ends With You - Image 1Tetsuya Nomura‘s venture on the Nintendo DS titled The World Ends With You, the action RPG with attitude and style that we haven’t seen on the handheld, is now dated and will see its North American release on April 22, 2008. Developed by Square Enix and Jupiter, it’s about the introverted 15-year-old Neku Sakuraba who has to save himself from disappearing.

Being on the platform which has a healthy library of touch screen-based controls, The World Ends With You promises an intuitive combat system set in a funky take of modern-day Tokyo. While action-packed with RPG elements, you’ll also be “jiving” to the beat in a rhythm game fashion. A good mix of hip-hop, rock, and electronica are going to accompany you on your journey in the streets of Shibuya, Tokyo’s trendy youth culture center.

Thanks to the Cross Battle System, you can control two characters simultaneously – something uncommon to its genre. Tin Pin Slammer, a four-player minigame, is also available via local wireless connection. The World Ends With You already rocked Japan, and we’re very excited to see its localized release. If any new details surface, our eyes are peeled and we’ll keep you posted so watch this space!
