The Xbox 360 Towel Trick by CheapyD
If your very own Xbox 360 has passed on to the great console war in the sky – i.e. went and lit up with the red ring of death – here’s a neat and economical trick to get your machine of next-gen gaming love up and running once more, or at least for four or five days. All you need is a bit of patience – probably around half an hour or so’s worth – and three standard-issue towels. Here it is, the Xbox 360 towel trick, as demonstrated by CheapyD of Cheap Ass Gamer.
Fortunately, there’s no warranty-voiding activity you need to do with the towels in order to get your red-ring’ed console back in working order. First, one has to disconnect everything from the console itself except the power cord. Then, with the console turned on, simply wrap each towel around the Xbox 360 until you’ve got it snugly covered with three layers of towel material. This is to heat the console up enough to reset the chips inside.
Wait 20-25 minutes for the Xbox 360 to simmer, then remove the towels, turn it off, and then let it cool for about ten to fifteen minutes or so. If you’ve done it correctly, the Xbox 360 should be operational once again (of course, you have to reconnect everything first before turning it back on). Repeat this process every four or five days, or until the red ring comes back up again.
Note that towel trick is a temporary measure only, and you’re really much better off sending your console in for repairs. In any case, enjoy the video!
