This year’s top 10 Virtual Console games

Why are people interested in the Wii? Well, first of all it’s the cheapest next-gen console out there, plus it’s got that whole Wiimote motion-sensing controller going for it. And then there’s the Virtual Console, which has been described by Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata as “the video game version of Apple’s iTunes Store.”

If you’ve been living under a huge frickin’ boulder for the past year, the Wii’s Virtual Console will let Wii owners download and play classic titles that were released for Nintendo consoles, as well as titles for the Sega Genesis, TurboGrafx-16, and others. That means if you’re like one of the bloggers here and have never managed to land that jet in Top Gun on that aircraft carrier (this writer did it once, but then he never could duplicate the feat in subsequent playthroughs), well then now’s your chance to try again.

Anyway, while on one of our sojourns into the jungle known as the Internet, we stumbled upon a list of the top 10 Wii Virtual Console games that will be released this year. Looking through the list, we generally concur with the writers’ choices, although we would’ve wanted Tennis to get an honorable mention just for that sound that you hear whenever the tennis ball thunks into one of the players’ nether regions.

So, faithful Wii-ders, click on the ‘Read’ link below to check out the list. Y’know, personally, I’d have Boogerman and Evo (the Enix game where you start out as a fish and eat your way up the evolutionary ladder) in my top ten. What about you guys? If you feel like sharing your own list, don’t hesitate to leave a comment below.
