THQ Executive says console war is irrelevant

THQ - Image 1This generation’s console war has been getting a lot of coverage from the media. However, THQ executive Jack Sorenson pointed out that the console war may not be as important as others would believe. To find out more, check out the full article.

Jack Sorensen - Image 1A number of game publishers have been waiting for a dominant platform to emerge in this generation’s console war. While this might seem like a prudent choice, THQ executive Jack Sorenson pointed out that the console war is not as important as some would believe.

Sorenson noted that there was “too much of an emphasis on the sports aspect of who’s winning and losing”  in the console war. He added that he thinks this war “is totally irrelevant” from a business standpoint:

So the issue is not who wins, it’s can an independent publisher do a good business on that platform. We’re thinking everything from high-end MMO all the way to cell phones.

Sorenson makes an interesting point regarding the current platform war. The focus of video game companies shouldn’t be on which platform wins, but creating games that people will actually buy. While certain companies may be holding off in the hopes of capitalizing on the dominant console, it might be good for developers to just come out with a good set of titles that gamers will buy and play on their console of choice.
