THQ’s Metro 2033 was released some couple of months ago, did you notice? Yeah, it’s pretty low-key, that game. DOn’t be deceived by its quiet demeanor, though. THQ reports at their company’s earnings call today that it has, in fact, been “very profitable” for them.

CEO Brian Farrell took the centerstage at the meeting and applauded the game for bringing in profits, without giving in specific numbres. “It’s a very profitable title for us,” he said. What he divulged, however, was that Metro 2033 had a strong European fanbase, racking up roughly 2/3 of the sold units. The rest went to North American fans.

“A lot of the sales were done on PC, and a lot of the sales were also done through digital mechanisms that don’t get captured by any service.”

For the development of Metro 2033, THQ opted to use the low-cost development model. In hindsight, it apparently worked for them, “so when we get to even pretty modest levels of sales, we’re still making good money. And we like that model going forward.”
