Tier 3 set to be scaled? No can do, says Drysc

Feral Shaman - Image 1In the World of Warcraft, item scaling means that a higher item level can be used at lower character levels and the item grows as the character levels up. Antal over at the WoW Forums asked whether the Tier 3 set scales or whether it will scale in the future.

Blizzard poster Drysc was quick to answer the question:

Fundamentally speaking allowing items to scale up with level would undermine the worth of new items. The goal and achievement of character progression through itemization would be reduced if you were able to simply wear your Tier 3 items forever. We intend for old items to be sloughed off, and item upgrades and achievements to be the new hotness. Moving forward being the goal, character progression and not stagnation. In almost all cases items scale down with level increases, either in effectiveness or purpose.

That would explain a lot of things, though some players still ask why Tier 4 and 5 seem inappropriate compared to Tier 3 (which rocks in raiding). Shamans are especially on this list as apparently most of their gear lack stats for damage. Players want gear that can take them to the endgame – or at least work for use in raiding. Anyway, maybe things will get better once raid loot gets their buffs.
