The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay
will probably always be known as one of those rare games that managed to way better than the movie it accompanied.

Now fans of the game (as well as those who missed it) have something to look forward to in the form of Starbreeze‘s The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena (PS3, Xbox 360, PC), an expanded remake of the game that features enough new content to warrant semi-sequel status.

Vin Diesel’s Tigon Studios has time and again emphasized that Dark Athena is not a true sequel, though, calling it instead “an episodic expansion” of Butcher Bay. The real sequel is still a couple of years out. Here’s what Tigon’s head of production Ian Stevens told Eurogamer:

We’re not calling it a sequel; we’ve got a sequel in mind that’s a couple of years out if you guys want it, and you like this and you tell us you want more.

[The full sequel] is ambitious and that is definitely going to follow the precedent that we set with the first. But for now we’ve got a new story that we want to tell and a little bit of a single-player expansion on that original game.

The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena is currently scheduled for release next Spring. Check it out and let Tigon know you want more.
