Tony Hawk’s Downhill Jam – New Screenshots and Artwork
In Activision‘s Tony Hawk’s Downhill Jam, players can choose to play as Tony Hawk or one of eight original characters. Basically it’s an arcade style downhill racer. Players can crouch for more speed, pull of tricks like jumps and grinds to avoid obstacles or gain speed boosts. The environments can get pretty challenging, as most of the time you’d have to dodge not only random environmental obstacles, but also moving vehicles and pedestrians.
A degree of customization is available to players. For example, the staple “create-a-skater” feature is still there. Also variety of skateboards are available for your choosing, from 70’s style boards to the longer sleeker, each has an affect on gameplay.
As I’ve said it’s a race, but it’s also a Tony Hawk game, so a little light hearted fun is expected. You can actually knock down your opponents to get ahead, way ahead. And since the game allows Head-to-head gameplay: via split screen, the knock down feature lends to a lot of jeering between you and your buddies. IF you’re bored with just the plain race, there are other modes for you to enjoy like Trick Attack, Slalom, and Event.
We’ve posted game videos, screens, and a whole bunch of game artwork before, but you guys always want more right? Fresh from the big Wii event, here are new screenshots and some development artwork for Tony Hawk’s Downhill Jam.

Here’s a short overview of the control scheme:
Hold the Wii Remote laterally. Tilt Left or Right to make skater turn in that direction.
Hold the 2 Button to crouch for greater speed. Release the 2 Button to Ollie (jump).
Press the 2 Button while in the air to perform a Grab trick. Holding a +Control Pad direction at the same time will use a different trick variation for each direction.
Press the 1 Button while in the air to perform a Flip trick. Holding a +Control Pad direction at the same time will use a different trick variation for each direction.
Press the 1 Button while next to a rail to perform a Grind trick. Holding a +Control Pad direction at the same time will use a different trick variation for each direction.
During certain tricks such as Grinds, the player has to keep a balance meter centered, tilting the Wii Remote to the Left or Right.
When the “Special” meter is full and spinning, the player can press the A Button (by itself or in combination with the 1 or 2 Buttons) to perform a Special trick.
To rotate any trick while in the air, tilt the Wii Remote to the Left or Right.
To power slide around a corner, press the A Button and tilt the Wii Remote in the direction you want to turn.
If the player has scored enough points from tricks, they can “gesture” to boost by shaking the Wii Remote down and back up. The player can alternately press the B Button to boost at high speed.
