Nintendo DSSo, does your beloved Nintendo DS need some sprucing up lately? #1: DSOrganize v1.90 Final by DragonMinded

DSOrganize is a handy application that allows your DS to turn itself into a PDA. Containing simple PDA applications, this program can help you keep track of your daily activities, appointments and plans. To input information, you can either use the touch-enabled keyboard or a graffiti-type letter recognizer. Though v2.2 was supposed to come out, it has been halted and no updates have been released so far. In the meantime, v1.90 is currently the most stable version, though you can also try out v2.0 Beta if you wish.

#2: Beup Live v0.3 Final by HtheB and kevinc

This little application is one that brings MSN Messenger to your DS. Just install this app and head over to your nearest Wi-Fi cloud and start chatting with your MSN buddies, all on your DS! No need to lug around your laptop on top of everything else you usually bring around since all you would need is your DS and its stylus. To enter text, just use the touch-based keyboard or scribble away with it’s letter recognizer. MSN smileys also work fully on this application, so start downloading! Not convinced? Then watch it in action!

#3 GoodNDS v0.0.4 by goodNDS

Okay, this one is not an application that goes into your DS, but rather, this is an NDS emulator which you can install into your PC. Now, before you question its usefulness, this application is recommended within the community especially when you want to test out homebrew games first before actually installing it into your handheld. Most homebrew developers also use GoodNDS to run their applications or games as they work out the bugs and kinks of their programs, before releasing it for the public.

#4 MoonShell v1.3 Final Beta by Infantile Paralysiser

MoonShell is one of the most popular homebrew applications ever to hit the DS homebrew scene, and sure enough, the name of its Japanese creator has pretty much become established within the community. So, what makes this application so special? Well for one thing, this app turns your lovely DS into a portable media player. With MoonShell, one can now play MP3s on the DS, as well as view images and movies (provided the memory card you’re using has enough for a movie, that is). Over the past year, the creator of this app has tweaked it so that it can support various media and image formats, and on top of that, it is also compatible with most, if not all, NDS flashcarts and adaptors.

#5 Retawq Web Browser for DS by PepsiMan

Retawq is the first ever web browser for the Nintendo DS that has been compiled and can be used via DSLinux (Yes. Linux. On your DS. Told you it’s a nifty toy). As usual, just find your neighborhood Wi-Fi cloud, and you’re good to go. Of course, an official Opera-based web browser for the Nintendo DS has been released, but if you’re not exactly willing to shell out another US$ 50 to be able to surf on your DS, then there’s always this free alternative.

And there you go! Your DS can help keep track of your schedule, start an IM conversation, surf the web, play MP3s, and view your pictures. Now, the only thing that we’d need to figure out next is how to get it to make coffee in the morning.
