Toshiro Tsuchida signs on as FFXIII battle director

welcome to the team! - Image 1 Tetsuya Nomura has revealed to Japanese magazine Gemaga one of the names that will be associated with Final Fantasy XIII. According to Nomura, Toshiro Tsuchida will be handling the combat system for the latest iteration in the Final Fantasy franchise.

Tsuchida has already worked on Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy XI as battle director for the former and on the boss monster AI for the latter. He is most known for replacing the old active time battle (ATB) system with the conditional turn-based battle (CTB) system in FFX. He was also the battle director for the PSX title Front Mission 3, and has worked on all of the games in the Front Mission series.

Nomura also mentioned a few tidbits regarding Final Fantasy Versus XIII‘s control system. Apparently (if the translation’s spot on), the fights will resemble those in Kingdom Hearts, with a little bit of third-person shooter features thrown in the mix. Each weapon in the game will have another camera and control system.
