Totemo Kawaii! A Loco Roco Review
There’s one Japanese word that best fits Loco Roco: kawaii (insert giddy schoolgirl squeal here). Many admit that one can get lost in it’s charm. After all, who can resist a yellow blob just rolling, and rolling and rolling… ?
This too-sweet-for-words character seems to make up for the seemingly monotonous gameplay. According to Jeff Gerstmann of GameSpot, Loco Roco’s cute factor makes a good first impression. Couple your sunshine-y blobs with wacky, cartoon-ish background music as well as fun visuals, and this game shows promise.
Your Loco Rocos have to beat the crap out of the evil, planet-invading Moja by rolling over them (see, even the game’s premise is cute). You do this by using the left and right PSP triggers to make the yellow creatures roll (while hitting both triggers will make them jump). You got to collect berries as well, to super-size your Loco Rocos into magnanimous blobs of cuteness. Also, if you’re not a big fan of yellow, you could choose a different color for your Loco Roco before each level.
You have to be on the lookout for unlockable parts for the Loco Roco house to make more of the game. With this, you can unlock minigames, and even have access to the level editor to make your own demo levels either for sharing or personal enjoyment.
Simply put, all you have to do is get to the end of each level, and this is where the sort-of-letdown part comes in. But if you’re looking for a simple diversion, then this game’s for you. For those who are into long and challenging gameplays, then you better expect not the usual stuff you look for in a game. Either way, this game’s still something to get your hands on, as it sure makes a good job of giving you entertainment.
