Activision has let loose a few more bits of detail regarding Transformers: War for Cybertron, the new multiplatform game from High Moon Studios.
This one’s an origins story, taking place before the Autobots and Decepticons took their war to Earth. Players will get to see the Cybertronian civil war through both sides. The Autobot campaign tells a story of heroism to save their home planet, while the Decepticon campaign weaves a tale of an unquenchable thirst for power to control the universe. How poetic.
The game will also feature team-based online co-op, a first for the Transformers video game franchise. Players can also go head to head in a variety of multiplayer modes. As we saw in the trailer, the game will have “all-new visualisations” of the Transformers’ Cybertronian forms, so don’t expect a flatbed to come rolling down the highway here. The Prime in the trailer does bear some resemblance to his Cybertron mode in Transformers Animated though.
Transformers: War for Cybertron is slated to hit the PS3, Xbox 360, PC, Wii, and DS. No official release date has been announced yet, but the press release states it’s a story Hasbro and Activision “look forward to telling in 2010 and beyond.” So next year, I guess?
