Despite the hardware limitations of the console, the studio is sitll very much willing to invest in the Wii to ensure it gets the best out of it.
“The expectation is ‘that game on that platform’, even though we know objectively the platform is not the same,” he said.
“Whereas we’re able to create the same assets that can be used on PC, PS3 and 360, we actually have to do quite a bit of work on both the technology and assets for Wii. The investment is heavy to get it working on the Wii, but we’re committed to it as we were with Modern Warfare: World at War and Call of Duty 3.
And it is true, they have so far shown much faith in the little white console. “It’ll be our fourth Wii shooter. Is there another team that’s put out four WIi shooters?” he correctly pointed out. “There probably is, but certainly not online. And look, we have a huge online fanbase and they’re playing it over and over. We obviously want to please that audience – the Wii has been great.”
And that is why Treyarch will be staying committed to the Wii console, so much so that they’re also releasing Call of Duty: Black Ops on the Wii, as well as on the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. November 9, 2010 is the date to watch out for.
