Turbine: MMOs are easier to develop for Xbox 360 than PS3

Speaking at the “MMOs to consoles” panel at the GDC in Austin, Turbine VP of product development Craig Alexander makes a comparison between the two powerhouses of the seventh generation. His thoughts – it’s easier to develop MMOs for the Xbox 360 than the PS3.

MMOs are steadily breaking out of their PC confines and into this console generation thanks to the massive support for online play. Speaking at the “MMOs to consoles” panel at the GDC in Austin, Turbine VP of product development Craig Alexander makes a comparison between the two powerhouses of the seventh generation. His thoughts – it’s easier to develop MMOs for the Xbox 360 than the PS3.

Alexander, however, recommends that developers shouldn’t take the easy way out by starting with the PS3. Get the tougher stuff out of the way first, then the rest will be a breeze. The details, as he enumerated on the image below, are more in favor of the Xbox 360.

And in case you were curious, yes, Turbine is indeed working on an MMO for the consoles. Details are still pretty scant on that at the moment, but let’s leave that for another story.
