U.K. Wii Pre-orders: Gone in seven minutes

UK WiiEven online retail store Amazon UK was surprised after seeing its pre-order allocation of Wii sell out in a record-breaking seven minutes this morning. All Amazon UK Console and Videogames Manager James Schall could say was that Nintendo indeed benefited from the 360 launch problems last year.

“We’ve learnt a lot from the way in which we set up pre-orders for Xbox 360. Like a lot of retailers, we started our pre-orders too early and ended up generating a demand without having the stock to satisfy it,” Schall explained while still baffled. He added then that they actually received a tremendous amount of negative feedback from X360 fans last year.

Schall appears very happy with the turnout this morning. He mentioned, “We’re all really pleased with how things went. By waiting longer and utilising better planning of our stock allocation, the Wii pre-orders were a great success.” While the Wii was already launched in the U.S. a couple of days ago, U.K. on the other hand still needs to wait until December 8.

Finally, Schall couldn’t help it but admire Nintendo’s “clever game.” The Wii will go on sale two and a half weeks from now for UK£ 179.99 or around US$ 343.
