Ubisoft Brings ‘The Settlers’ to DS

Ubisoft is bringing the slow-paced real time strategy game The Settlers to the Nintendo DS. The game was first released way back in 1993 for Commodore Amiga and PC. Developed by German developer Blue Byte Software, the DS version of the game challenges you to manage a colony through two different campaigns: Roman and World. You can choose one of the different factions (Roman, Viking, Nubian or Asian) and establish a colony with 30 assignable jobs and six soldier types. The game features a free mode gameplay option for quick matches against the computer.

Games like this seem to be tailor-made for the DS. The dual-screen and touch-screen features of the handheld make the game easier to play compared to the point-and click-interface of the PC version. I’m pretty sure this game will have you spending even more time with your DS.

The Settlers is slated for a Q4 2006 release in Europe, Middle East and Asia. No word yet on a possible North American release, but we’ll keep you posted.
