Ubisoft: “Our goal is not to sell to EA but to beat EA”

ubisoft logoYou guys probably know that there’s this ongoing conflict between Ubisoft and EA which started last year when EA bought 20 percent of Ubisoft’s shares. And in a recent interview with Reuters, Ubisoft NA president Laurent Detoc once again brought to surface this conflict when he said that they intend to outsell EA with their investments in Wii software.

During the interview, Detoc commented that their early investment in Nintendo’s next-gen console is aimed to outsell EA’s Wii titles and that their goal in doing so is “not to sell to EA but to beat EA.” If you guys have been doing your reading, you’d probably know that Ubisoft currently has eight Wii titles in development which includes Rayman Raving Rabbids, Monster 4×4 Circuit, Open Season, and Blazing Angels: Squadrons of WWII.

The company will also be offering two Wii-exclusive titles: Red Steel and GT Pro Series, the latter of which  (along with Monster 4×4 Circuit) will come with Thrustmaster’s steering wheel attachment (dubbed by some as the Wiil). Ubisoft has confirmed details on how this attachment will be used as a controller: you place the Wiimote within the wheel so that the steering wheel attachment can now be used to direct your driving.

In addition to the awesome titles already mentioned, Ubisoft is also currently working on developing Far Cry Vengeance for the Wii, and is expected to be made available in time for the its launch in November. So far, the gaming community has no issues whatsoever with the whole Ubisoft-EA conflict because it only spurs competition and results to great games being developed for the Wii. And as far as gaming goes, we can all agree that competition is always good. Right?
