The collapse of UK retail chain Woolworths and its CD and DVD distribution arm EUK has had a significant effect not only on its employees, but also on game publishers. One such publisher is Ubisoft.
The French publisher revealed that it is in danger of losing up to €1.5 million (US$ 2 million) since Woolworths is in no shape to pay its debts right now. “We are right now working out with Woolworths on dealing with their administrator,” said Ubisoft CFO Alain Martinez.
Ubisoft’s loss is still peanuts compared to what other companies stand to lose though. Estimates have placed EUK’s debts to Microsoft and Nintendo at £26 million (US$ 39.1 million) and £21 million (US$ 31.6 million), respectively.
