Ubisoft’s Petz series and a new IP in 2008
Ubisoft recently announced that three of their Petz series: Dogz, Catz, and Horsez will be waltzing on to Nintendo Wii these holidays. For the naysayers who are saying that this isn’t true, this information comes from Tony Key and is being introduced as part of the company’s expansion towards casual gaming. In addition to this, he gave word that Ubisoft will be releasing a new IP this 2008, although no specifics were given.
What are these games about? It’s essentially having pets on your system. You will raise, feed, and even groom the virtual animals. Hopefully, it will grow to become a happy well-rounded creature you can be proud of. What most people don’t realize about this game is the fact that it is the earliest attempt at creating virtual pets. Ubisoft took the reigns of development and publishing when the company purchased the Entertainment Division of The Learning Company after they in turn had purchased Mindscape. They have been making the game ever since.
All three games are targeted towards a casual audience which has become quite a powerful niche in the gaming market today. We can expect to hear more from Ubisoft regarding their further stabs into this market.
