Uh-oh. Ken Kutaragi is no longer Sony’s head honcho

Bye bye...[Note to ed: Yep, this is a dupe. Check your mail, Rica. :p] Uh-oh. It looks like someone got voted out and evicted from Big Brother‘s house, as Sony has just recently announced that Ken Kutaragi, the so-called “Father of Playstation” will no longer be holding the status as Sony’s President and Chief Operating Officer. Well, Kutaragi hasn’t exactly been exiled out of Sony-landia, but instead, he was demoted to the position of Chairman, effective on December 1. Though being a Chairman still involves being directly linked to managerial duties, it doesn’t quite hold the same level of respect and doesn’t quite sound as nice, as compared to being President and COO.

Taking Kutaragi’s place would be Kazuo Hirai who would now be overseeing Sony Computer Entertainment’s U.S. operations, while Jack Tretton will be occupying the spot which Hirai will leave vacant, which is the Chief Executive of SCEA.

It has been speculated that this move by the Sony gods was prompted by the less than stellar releases and sales of the PSP and the PS3, as well as the fact that the European release of the PS3 has to be postponed until March due to production boo-boos. Needless to say, it may just be that the Sony higher-ups didn’t like the way that Kutaragi has handled their flagship console.
