UK companies TMP and Yell hunt for human resource in Second Life

UK companies recruiting employees inside Second Life - Image 1Second Life currently has more or less a total of five million user base and as we speak, more and more individuals are taking a peek inside the virtual world wanting to become SL residents. Big companies have noticed this as well and in fact, the SL virus, so to speak, has spread even in the UK.

Advertising and communications agency TMP and international directories company Yell teamed up to lure these population into getting jobs with them. Accordingly, a team of avatars wearing yellow t-shirts will wander around Second Life and talk to other residents to promote Yell’s career website.

Virtual phones inside the MMO video game were also put up so that interested individuals can immediately communicate with real-life Yell personnel. Dave Runacres, National Account Director at TMP, this move by the directories company is somewhat logical because its kind of business resides “on the pulse of new technology and has a track record of utilizing it to enhance its business.”

He argued that recruiting new human resource in this manner definitely comes with a cheaper cost. Likewise, Head of National Resourcing at Yell in the UK Isabelle Hung couldn’t help but agree.

This approach is perfectly aligned with our brand. As a business we’re constantly looking to develop new products to maintain our position at the head of our field. The kind of people who are using Second Life may have just the right blend of creativity and innovation that weÂ’re looking for in our future talent.

This sounds a really good plan for the duo. Just before this month started, we reported that 70% of the virtual world’s population is somewhat disappointed with Linden Lab‘s service. This, and a couple of other crazy things happening inside, just might push some to leave the game altogether for “greener pastures.”
