UK retailers share thoughts about Jowett’s departure
So, what really happened with Sony and former sales director Kevin Jowett? Unfortunately, we still don’t have any idea as the company remains tight-lipped about the guy’s recent departure.
All it is saying is that Sony wishes him well and that National Sales Manager Mark Howsen is now the Acting Sales Director. Yeah, we don’t know the answer but some of the major retailers back in UK have interesting theories that are not quite pleasant.
One leading independent store owner told online site MCV, “Some think this is a cover-up to hide some unpleasant news. There is now a feeling that they are about to be shafted by a non-indie-sympathetic sales director.”
Furthermore, there’s a growing concern among retailers that this has something to do with Sony’s ambition to dominate in-store retail space, something Jowett wouldn’t approve of, or so the retailers believe. Accordingly, Sony asked them to install display areas featuring the console, PSP, HDTV, surround sound systems, and various items of Sony-branded furniture.
Another shared his laments with MCV and said, “This is probably something that comes from Sony central marketing that looks nice, but hasn’t really been practically considered. Even the smaller versions won’t work with most retailers. I wish Sony had worked more closely with us.”
We wish it too. More than with the retailers, we wish Sony would work hand-in-hand with its fan base and developers; Sony has continued to take positive measures with its fans and developers, but more love never hurt anybody.
