Ultra, ultra, ultra portable software…

I was browsing and I came across this site, bang! it hit me square in the face as I think of its immense practicalities. PortableApps.com offers most of the top open source software in a form that you can run straight from a USB drive.

Think about it, you can’t afford a laptop, and you have to take work to and from work and/or home. All you need to do is bag one of these beauties in your flash drive and take not only your documents and software, but also all of those settings you’ve spent the last year or so perfecting. How cool and practical is that?!

I’m a straight out user of open source software and I can vouch for how great it is. Currently I run OpenOffice 2.0 and Firefox is my browser of choice, and both of these in my opinion run better and offer much ease of use over the leading ‘paid’ competitor’s software. Those who go to school might find this helpful too, because often when using a campus computer terminal other than your own machine in your room, you may find that it doesn’t offer the program that you are used to using, or even doesn’t offer that program type at all. Other than what I just mentioned, I think many of you can find a reason to use such software.
