Universal announces Disc Replacement Program

High-Def Digest reports that Universal has finally acknowledged the problems regarding playback issues with several of their most recent HD DVD releases. Universal notes that they are now initiating a disc replacement program for consumers affected by these problems. Below is the studio’s full statement regarding the issue:

Universal is currently investigating reports that Children of Men, The Good Shepherd, and select other discs not playing properly in some HD DVD players. While we believe this is limited to a small number of HD DVD discs, Universal is offering a replacement service for any customers who are experiencing this problem. We are still investigating the cause and will provide further updates as we get them. Any customer problems should be directed to [email protected].

Considering that reports of these playback issues first surfaced late March – to be specific, with the Children of Men HD DVD, and it’s incompatibility problems with Microsoft’s Xbox 360’s HD DVD add-on drive – it’s about time that Universal responded to consumer concerns.
