Universal’s movie promotion creates game within Second Life?

Smokin' Aces - Image 1In order to promote their latest action thriller “Somkin’ Aces”, Universal Pictures created “Smokin’ Aces: Second Life Assassin”. The goal of the participants in the event is to acquire the highest bounty points by knocking off the competition, with a total of up to $ 1 million Linden given away over the course of the game.

Second Life residents were asked to sign up for the event at lobby of the Nomad Hotel. There, each player receives game instructions, a virtual starter weapon, and his or her hit list of virtual targets. After a hit is completed, each assassin will assume his or her prey’s list, thus giving more potential targets.

A movie promotion leading to a bloody game of murder and assassination within a virtual world? Who would’ve thought. Sigh. Only in Second Life folks, only in Second Life.
